Since 2009, the Commission for the Special Study of Construction Information Modeling (CEE-134) of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) proposes to deal with standardization related to construction information modeling (BIM) and is currently responsible for for the conception, development and translation of norms related to this methodology. The Committee also has the functions of preparing and revising the Brazilian Standards in accordance with the demands presented, ensuring compliance with the ABNT Guidelines for the process of preparing Brazilian Standards and deliberating on the submission of Draft Standards for National Consultation and for homologation as Brazilian Standard.
Sondotécnica was one of the first Brazilian companies to use the BIM methodology on a large scale in its projects and now, reinforcing this pioneering spirit, we have gained more representation in the matter. Sondotécnica’s BIM and Innovation Manager, Stefania Dimitrov, was invited to take up the position of secretary for CEE-134 and, in February, our team of BIM specialists began to have the current coordinator of this Commission, João Gaspar.
In her new position at CEE-134, Stefania’s main activities will be to help coordinate the Study Commission and act as secretary at meetings, coordinate the processing and receipt of documents from the Commission and replace coordination when necessary. Graduated from FAU-Mackenzie in Architecture and Urbanism, the professional has more than 20 years of experience in project coordination and, in recent years, has specialized in BIM, having given several presentations and lectures on the subject and integrated the BIM Temporary Commission – CT BIM from CAU/SP. Currently, Stefania is also part of the Board of Directors of BIM Forum Brasil and of the Temporary Commission for Information and Communication Technologies at CAU/SP. Last year, Stefania defended her master’s research with the theme “BIM as an intervention tool in favelas: the case of Paraisópolis in São Paulo“ at FAU-Mackenzie. The work is a development of one of the most representative projects carried out by Sondotécnica with the BIM methodology.
“The development of Brazilian standards in the BIM universe is an extremely important activity to guarantee the safety, quality and effectiveness of products and services, contributing to the public good, in addition to supporting the dissemination of BIM in Brazil.”, says Stefania.
Exchange of enriching experiences
The new member of Sondotécnica’s team of BIM specialists, João Gaspar, has been leading the coordination of CEE-134 since the end of 2022. The professional has a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from FAU-USP, he has a master’s degree from the Graduate Program Graduated in Architecture, Technology and City at Unicamp and is currently a doctoral student at the Graduate Program in Architecture and Urbanism at FAU-USP with the research project “Proposition of a method for the application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Technical Assistance projects for Social Housing (ATHIS)”.
João is also a guest member of the Temporary Committee on Information and Communication Technologies for Architecture and Urbanism at CAU/SP, author of several books, with emphasis on “101 Concepts in Architecture and Urbanism in the Digital Era”, “Contemporary architecture and automation: practical and reflection” and “Urban Metrics: parametric approaches in the planning of sustainable neighborhoods and cities”, specialist in teaching, research and creation of didactic material focused on BIM and author of articles published and presented at important international conferences such as CIB W78 2018 ( Chicago, USA) SIGraDI 2017 (Concepción, Chile), CIB W78 2015 (Eindhoven, Netherlands) and TIC 2015 (Recife).
“Being appointed to coordinate CEE-134 was a great honor. It is a huge responsibility to take on this task, but I believe that working in the BIM and Innovation Department at Sondotécnica will bring me a lot of knowledge and learning that I will be able to use in the exercise of coordination. On the other hand, the knowledge accumulated in the development of the Commission’s voluntary work also yields fruits, experiences and learning that I take to Sondotécnica”, emphasizes João.
